Survival Course – Level 01

We invite you to join us during a weekend and head to Tomar for a level 01 survival course.

This course aims to familiarize participants with the basic techniques of survival on land and provide them with the means and knowledge so that they can survive in nature in case of need, or just as personal enrichment, acquiring greater knowledge about life in the outdoors and a greater proximity to nature.

Duration: 2 Nights and 2 Days. (Friday at 10 pm until Sunday afternoon)
Location: Tomar, Portugal
Minimum age: 16 years
Price: 100 € / Person

Includes: A survival KIT (1 Survival Knife – 1 Fire-steel), Personal accident and liability insurance, Embroided Patch (equivalent to the obtained rank), and Training Certificate

Program:

The topics are shown as an indication and can be modified for climatic, organizational or group level reasons.

Basics of survival situations (typical scenarios)
Circumstantialism of catastrophes;
Specificity of activities in remote and inhospitable places;
Typification of the most common causes of death: accident, disorientation.
Consequences: cold, thirst, hunger, isolation.
Rule of “3”: serious injury, hypothermia, dehydration, malnutrition, loneliness;
React: Stress management (panic, fear)
Resilience. Self-confidence, (experience), positivism, (hope)

Preventive measures, (preparation)
Knowledge of the activity, (training)
Knowledge of the morphology and climate of the site
Weather forecast.
Adequate equipment, (clothing, orientation, bivouac, …)
Survival kits and minimalist equipment. The 5 C’s.
Security plan. Hazards identification. Risk management;

Reactive measures in a survival situation (self-assistance and rescue)
Minimize damage. Basic support of life. keeping warm
Rescue. Distress signaling, (position referencing).
Survival priorities. Rule of “3”.

Techniques:
Expedited orientation, by natural indicators. Rectilinear displacement by references.
Building shelters. Natural or expedited;
Fire. Techniques for lighting, and maintaining a fire;
Obtaining water. Locate, collect, filter and purify.
Moorings and overcoming obstacles (knots and rope maneuvers)
Handling knives and other cutting tools.
First aid in outdoor locations
Hunting and fishing traps and foraging edible plants
Wild cooking

Mandatory material (If you don’t have equipment, contact us)
Backpack, suited to carry the described itens bellow.
Tarp or Poncho to shelter from the rain and moist.
Sleeping bag, quilt or blanket
Water – 3 liters per day, per person
Light
Toilet paper
Notebook
Trash bag

PROHIBITED – Food, Soft Drinks and Tents

Allowed: Coffee, tea, infusions (no sugar).
